Casino Rama Ontario, near Orillia, is a top of the line, modern casino with entertainment, restaurants, shopping and all the gaming a player could want.
Our photo below shows the impressive frontage and main entrance to the casino.
As with many casinos in North America nowadays, Rama is owned by First Nations' (Canada's term for the native peoples) organizations and operated by them. However, this one is different, for Canada anyhow, because it is a genuinely commercial operation designed to make money so don't imagine a small operation.
Rama is big and sophisticated with all that today's gambler wants. There's a large floor of slot machines for folks like me who can't play, or afford, roulette, dice or cards.
The restaurants cover a wide range of tastes and pockets, from the free coffee around the rooms, to snacks and sandwiches, all the way up to some very classy eating.
Rama has a big theater too (photo), seating thousands, and putting on full Broadway-style shows (e.g. Spamalot), or rock concerts, and individual performers -- be they singers or stand-up comedians. This is the entrance to the theatre, away from the main casino entrance, showing just some of the amazing native art work that runs throughout the building.
Even if you don't gamble, Rama is worth checking out for the shopping, eating and particularly the entertainment. An evening of retail therapy, excellent food and wine, followed by a show or big name act is a great way to spend time on your vacation.
The building also has quite a retail presence with high end
clothes and gift stores, many with a First Nations theme -- moccasins
and other leather clothes being prominent. There are plenty of regular gift stores too with prices that range from 'fits most pockets' up to 'Wow'.
With being out in the country (about 2 hours north-east of Toronto anyhow), Rama has its own hotel for overnight stays and there are also plenty of motel rooms nearby. Businesses like Casino Rama bring an infrastructure into being around them and a string of different stores are appearing along Rama Road.
And the growing town of
is only 15 - 20 minutes away with all its year round attractions. Spend the day at the beach in Orillia and then the evening at Casino Rama.
