Located at the west end of Queen St West, the Drake Hotel Toronto is a city hotspot for nightlife and the arts. The building has been around since 1890 (and still features many of its old architectural styles) but in its current form, the it opened in 2004 and has been thriving ever since.
Drake has been a hotel and restaurant for many years and under a number of different owners who have each added something different. Today it has 19 hotel rooms, a busy restaurant, and the Sky Year Patio -- each is open all year round (yes, even with winter weather on the patio!).
Drake Hotel Toronto is on Queen St West, a vibrant shopping area by day and an equally vibrant place for bars and restaurants at night. Local shops tend to be locally owned 'boutique stores' selling everything from vintage appliances to 'one of a kind' clothes. After spending the day shopping, you can easily transition into dinner and drinks.
A word of caution though, for dinner from Thursday through Sunday it’s best to make a reservation otherwise you could end up waiting 1-2 hours for a table. And be on time for your reservation! Your table will be wanted by more diners the moment you're finished -- it's that popular, which means that good. The Drake offers a wide menu range and a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy it in (provided you're on time:-). Food choices include, delicious braised beef gnocchi, sushi, chicken pot pie and fish options. The restaurant runs from 6-11pm every night.
After dinner, the Drake Hotel Toronto turns into a relaxing bar with 2 different areas to enjoy. Downstairs is an intimate area, with cozy couches and plenty of places to sit. Upstairs is the Sky Yard Patio, for drinks under the stars on warm summer nights and heaters, a fire pit and tents to keep you warm on 'cool' winter nights. And always daybeds to relax on and gaze out over the city. If you want a spectacular location for your next event, Sky Yard Patio is available to rent.
If you're visiting Toronto, the Drake Hotel is a great option for a downtown stay. Rooms range from the Solo room (perfect for 1 person) to the Suite, which is big enough for a small group, with rooms of varying sizes and prices in between. Each room is individually designed and has new amenities, artwork by local artists, and a welcome basket. There are also common spaces available for meeting and mingling with other guests. If you’re celebrating a special occasion, the Drake Hotel has packages for birthdays or romantic weekends.
Staying in Queen St West is an excellent choice for your Toronto visit. The Drake Hotel offers a great breakfast and lunch menu (Monday to Friday) and brunch on the weekends. After enjoying a delicious meal you can walk to nearby shopping and art galleries. Drake, and nearby Gladstone Hotel, also feature artwork by local artists and have rotating collections on view so you hardly have to leave the hotel. They also host art events throughout the year.
The Drake Hotel Toronto is close to public transport and easy to get to. It's a 15 minute walk from the GO Train's Exhibition Station or a short street car ride from Union Station -- take the Queen street car west line to Beaconsfield stop, or hop on the subway to Osgoode Station. If you're driving, there's a public parking lot across the street and plenty of street parking.
